DMV experienced nationwide outage for nearly 3 hours

The Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) experienced technical issues for nearly three hours on Thursday due to an outage with a third-party provider.

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), which provides software to the DMV, experienced a 'loss in cloud connectivity,' a spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

The glitch halted license-related transactions from 9:50am to 12:30pm ET.

Many Americans shared their frustration, some of who were parents taking their children in for their driving lesson - only to be sent home empty handed.

The Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) experienced technical issues on Thursday for nearly three hours due to an outage with a third-party provider

'During [the time of the outage], there was no ability to process messages that support transactions of driver licenses and motor vehicle titles,' the spokesperson said

'This prevented a number of motor vehicle agencies from issuing driver licenses and vehicle titles during the outage.

'AAMVA is working internally and with our cloud providers to determine the root cause of the outage.'

The DMV is a state-level government agency due to driving privileges being granted by the state government.

Alexi Giannoulias, Illinois Secretary of State, made the first announcement about the outage, triggering responses of other states who have issued notices to locals or posted on Elon Musk's X.

New York State posted: 'We are aware of ongoing issues impacting transactions in our offices and online, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

'We are working diligently to get everything back up and running and will let you know when we do.'
